"Supercrafts" Badge and "All About Art" Badge for Brownies by Eleanor

Supercrafts Badge

For my Supercrafts badge I needed to sew something. I used a kit I got from the Scholastic catalog, and made a cookie. I am going to give it to my Dad for Father's Day.

I had to make a paper craft and I chose origami, and I made a origami bunny.

...and then I made an origami elephant.

And then I had to make a craft out of recycled materials. I decided to make a flower vas out of tissue paper, glue and a wine bottle.

This is for my "All About Art" badge. I had to make colour wheels of the primary and secondary colours. I used my special scented markers.

I had to make a figure out of wire or pipe cleaners.. I made one out of wire. It is a man walking his dog.

For this badge, I had to visit an art gallery. I went to the art gallery with my Moaike. This is picture I drew when I was there of one of the pictures in the art gallery by Henri Le Sidaner.

I also had to make a comic book about my favourite book. I made a comic strip called Murray and Blurry, about one of my favourite books, which is called "Ever After".

Eleanor's Grow Your Garden Brownie Badge and Earth Science!

Helllo, it is I, and I am back again, and again, and I am sure I will be back again - good thing you guys like me, and if you don't like me , then stinky that!

Well, now time to get on to my Brownie badge. I had to identify 3 gardening tools and learn how to use them.

This is the first tool, a small shovel called a trowel. You use it for hand digging, in a garden when you are planting small flowers, peas, seeds or bulbs - stuff like that. Or if you want to, you can pretend to do something dangerous, like I am pretending to do here, to Amy. Oh, this is my neighbour Amy. SHE IS SO CUTE!

This is a gardening fork. You use it to poke little holes in the ground when you are planting seeds. Like tomato seeds , oregano seeds, maybe some basil or bell pepper seeds. (That would be a good Greek salad!)

That is a bush snipper. You may use it to snip a rose bush, or a tree - if you wanted to trim a really baby tree and you didn't want to be growing somewhere you can take the bush snipper and go SNIP!

This is a rake. You rake with it.

This is a bulb which we planted, the bulbs have already bloomed into flowers before we got a picture, and now, they're sort of dead. But we had daff-a-down-dillys (that's what they call daffodils in The Secret Garden) and tulips this year, which grow from bulbs.

And now I'm re-planting the bulbs so they can grow again next year and my mother can exclaim, "oh, they are so beautiful!"

Now we are planting little wildflower seeds. I hope they grow. We planted them all over.

Here I am learning how to do safety clipper things. You have to close the clippers so someone doesn't get hurt accidentally.

This is us watering the plants after we planted the seeds.

This is me showing rake safety. This is a yes-yes.

This is a no-no.

And this is why.

It would very muchly hurt!

This is Amy showing rake safety.

This is terrarium that I built and I planted seeds in it.

These are the holes that I punched in the bottom so then if I put in too much water, it could go out.

In Grade 3, I am also learning abut erosion, plants, rocks, soil and all that good stuff. Erosion is when either sand, or water, or wind, rub or blow on something and change it's shape by rubbing off the rock over time. For example, Let's say you have a big rock in the middle of the Gobe desert. And then, a big windstorm comes up and blows a whole bunch of sand against the rock. Let's say it was a 5-year-long windstorm (which is unrealistic) but, this is an example, so anything can happen. And then a camel, riding in the windstorm, pulls out a popsicle and gives it to a tiny baby who was suffering in the windstorm - look I told you anything could happen! But seriously, things can really, really wear down over time.

This is my Granny, the best Granny in the world, teaching me all about it.

This is a huge wood sort of waterfall. It is in Goldstream Provincial park in Victoria, BC. It is called Goldstream Park because during the gold rush in BC miners first found there. And BINGO! they got gold. But not a lot.

My Mum thought it was a rock, but I knew it was wood. We were trying to debate if it was a rock, wood, an old tree fallen over or someone suggested maybe it was an old bridge fallen down. I saw this, and I was thinking, "Oh, this has to be erosion!" because the water moving against it for so long had worn it down.

This is the end. Thank you for listening. And I'll be BACK.

Pioneers, trains, wars, masks, e-books and more!

We love our H.L.G.C. Home Learners Girls Congregation!

One day we made up a "pioneer girls" game. We grew our own food, carried our own water and made our own "campfire".

We made our own face and hair masks out of natural ingredients!

We visited the World War I battle exhibit at the Port Moody Museum and learned about our our great-grandfather fought in the war and was saved by a bible (or a prayer book) in his pocket!

We visited the railway museum and learned about the first trains that came to Vancouver.

We kept cooking and planing healthy meals for our family.

We made chicks and narwhals out of marzipan for Shakespeare's birthday.

Eleanor has been learning about air, water and soil, learning to plant her own plants and start her own garden.

Eleanor has been learning about toxins in detergents, and how they affect the water systems in our province. We compared laundry soaps and chose one that wasn't poison!

We did some math to learn about comparison shopping, and how to compare prices based on weights and measures (cost per 100g).

And of course, Eleanor wrote an e-book called "Tips On How To Bend A Bully." She learned how to use the e-book software, cut and paste and publish her own entries.

And.... here's some photos for the end of the year slide show!

Brownie Badge; All About Canada by Eleanor

I did it my All About Canada badge. I painted a picture on a T-shirt of maple leaf flag. The Maple leaf is a symbol of Canada because the maple tree grows in Canada.

Here is a set of Canadian coins. The Twoney has a polar bear on it. The Loony has a loon on it because it swims in the lakes of British Columbia. On the back of a quarter there is a caribou. It has a caribou on it because the Caribou roams in Canada. The dime has the famous Bluenose on it. The Bluenose is a famous fishing ship which came from Nova Scotia. The nickel has a beaver on it because it is a symbol of Canada. In the fur trade people used to trap beavers and use them as hats and blankets.

I made a collage of the provincial flower, mineral, bird, flag, and tree of British Columbia. The the flower of BC is the Pacific Dogwood. The mineral of BC is Jade. The tree of BC is Western Red Cedar. The bird of BC is the Steller's Jay.

A bear would also make good Canadian symbol because it roams in Canada and is a part of our country. A killer whale would also make a good symbol. Because it also roams in the seas of Canada and there are not many of them left.

What it means to be Canadian is it doesn't just mean that you are Canadian if you were born in Canada. If you were born somewhere else in the world you can become a Canadian citizen citizen by going to a special ceremony. Canadians can be all different kinds of people. They can be white people, black people, and brown people. What makes us different from other people in the world that we are all different and definitely special.

Some of the rights as a Canadian is we have a choice to vote and the government has to be fair to us and honest. As a little girl I have the right of people being fair to me and me being fair to other people and nobody's allowed to just throw me into jail. And also I'm not allowed to just throw someone in jail and blame them them for something that they didn't do.  I have some responsibilities.

Responsibilities that I have is I'm not allowed to shoot anyone or any animal or cut down every single tree in the world.  I'm not allowed to shoot every animal in the world because they also help us by making food for other things and they lay eggs and help other things grow.
